About

The Solid Waste Optimization Life-Cycle Framework (SWOLF) model is a multi-stage life-cycle optimization model for solid waste management (SWM) systems that considers changes in solid waste generation, composition, and policy as well as changes to the energy system over time. It is being developed by researchers in the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering at North Carolina State University (NCSU).

News

The SWOLF team is currently developing workshops and online resources as part of the International Institute for Solid Waste Management Life-Cycle Modeling. We are also further developing the SWOLF interface and are currently looking for potential testers that would be interested in helping us develop the tool.

Life-Cycle Institute

The Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) at NC State received support from the National Science Foundation to establish an international virtual institute to study solid waste management (SWM) life-cycle modeling in collaboration with researchers at the Danish Technical University. The International Institute for Solid Waste Management Life-Cycle Modeling seeks to enhance research, education, and outreach related to the life-cycle assessment of integrated SWM systems.
